Vegan Parenting

Study after study has shown a plant based diet is the healthiest for us and the planet. Being plant-based is easy but sometimes dealing with all the information can feel complicated. There are new vegan restaurants, recipe books, documentaries and websites popping up everywhere. Despite the increasing availability of vegan foods and resources, raising a vegan family can be confusing and overwhelming.

As a parent, you want to raise your children in the healthiest way possible. Conflicting information abounds, from advertisers to healthcare providers. It may be difficult to know what information is “real” or just good marketing.

In addition, each child is an individual. There is no universal parenting handbook that works for every child. Eating a plant-based is the healthiest for most parents and children alike. Structure and routine are essential for a sense of wellbeing. Behavioral modification with positive reinforcement is key. The challenge lies in finding the right balance. Small changes may make big differences in your child’s health and wellbeing.

One little criticism or slightly-off lab value can leave a parent guilt-ridden and undone. Working your way through the maze of information and pressures may leave you exhausted. Sometimes you just need someone in your corner making sense of it all.

As a board certified pediatrician with over 30 years experience, I am confident that a plant-based diet is the healthiest diet for long-term health and wellness. If you are experiencing obstacles or simply want to prevent them, surround yourself with good information, resources and support. Having also raised three well-rounded, vegan children to healthy adults, I am here to guide you.

“The most valuable benefit of our relationship with Traci, was her ability to understand and explain the interconnections between child/teen development, physical health, and nutrition. She is a powerful advocate and able to provide tailored medical advice, nutrition counseling and support in raising healthy children. We care deeply about food and wellness, which can sometimes be overwhelming, but she was able to help us navigate a more holistic approach to whatever challenges our kids were facing. I always felt like Traci was a partner in supporting our family and I can not imagine raising our children, now 18 and 21, without her!”

“We started with Traci after feeling beaten down by previous practitioners. As a family, we valued healthy lifestyle choices and wanted a partner whose philosophy reflected the same. Her style was highly personalized as she guided us through the problem solving process in order to make the best decision for our family. She always respected our decisions while being honest with her perspective. We are so grateful to have had such a positive medical experience for our family. We wholeheartedly recommend Dr Wagner for health and lifestyle support.”
